Demons, Shame, and Belonging: Using Fandom Narratives in Adlerian Play Therapy

Part of the 2026 Geek Play Therapy Summit

Demons, Shame, and Belonging is a three-hour experiential workshop that explores how Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss can be used as powerful therapeutic metaphors through an Adlerian play therapy lens.

Participants will examine how characters’ struggles with shame, identity, belonging, and connection reflect core Adlerian concepts such as lifestyle, mistaken goals, and social interest.

Through case examples, interactive activities, and fandom-based analysis, clinicians will learn how to ethically and creatively use adult animation to increase emotional engagement, insight, and therapeutic alliance in play therapy sessions—especially with clients who feel marginalized or hard to reach.
